3rd UK Festival de Orquestas + Herman Olivera (New York) in Concert : 24-25 May

This weekend Festival of the Latin Bands Returns to London and welcomes Grammy Award Winning New York artist Herman Olivera, ‘El Sonero del Siglo XXI’

THE TRUE SPIRIT OF LATIN AMERICA comes to life in London as the 3rd UK FESTIVAL DE ORQUESTAS resounds across the capital at Haverstock School, Camden over the Bank Holiday weekend on Saturday 24th - Sunday 25th May 2014.

For the first time, this celebration of some of the best Latin music crews in the UK takes place over two full days during the May Bank Holiday weekend, doubling the scale of the festival first launched in 2012.

On Sunday night, the Festival culminates in a rare concert by New York artist Hermán Olivera, widely regarded as the world’s greatest living Salsa singer. Dubbed 'El Sonero del Siglo XXI', (the Salsa improviser of the 21st century) - by the legendary Latin jazz pianist Eddie Palmeri, Olivera’s unmatched mastery of improvisation crowns him as one of the genre’s last great troubadours. With a career spanning 38 years and over 50 albums with a fistful of Grammy awards, Olivera has fronted some of Salsa’s greatest orchestras and worked with its foremost artists, including Conjunto Libre, Johnny Pacheco, Ray Barretto, Machito, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Jimmy Bosch and Eddie Palmieri’s Orchestra where he’s still their lead singer.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Festival sets off with free salsa lessons from 7.30pm-9.00pm, followed by dance shows and live sets from 9.30pm. At the heart of Festival is the showcase of the bands, as five of the UK’s top music crews face off in the ultimate ‘mano a mano’ conflagration playing an infectious mix of Latin beats: Wil Sifontes & his Latin Sound, Jesus Cutiño & Son de Cuba, Cuban Combination, Orquesta Estelar and Combo Yanze’. Herman Olivera takes centre stage at 11:30pm on Sunday with an exclusive concert showcasing his poetic, seasoned voice, with a rich and deep understanding of Afro Caribbean rhythms.

A Festival for all the family to enjoy, with live music, free salsa lessons, dance showcases as well as late-night parties and a chance to try out authentic Latin American food and classic cocktails all available throughout the Festival.

In a musical career spanning almost four decades and 50 albums garnering Grammy Awards, Herman Olivera has worked with an array of the Salsa greats.
