Open Streets (Ciclovia) : 30 May

Do you want to be part of London's first Open Streets event? If you'd like to help, click here. There's already lots planned - see what's happening on the 30th of May

Open Streets is the creative use of public space. By re-imagining our streets in this way, we enable a wide variety of social and cultural activities which traffic normally renders impossible. Open Streets inspires us to think differently about how we want to live, travel and socialise.

Open Streets started in South America 40 years ago. Now, the Colombian city of Bogotà opens 120km to walkers and cyclists every Sunday, and a third of the city's population takes part. Watch the Rise of Open Streets here. Get ready London - Southwark is just the start!

Open Streets events have been taking place in Colombia since 1976. Every Sunday and on holidays from 07h00 until 14h00 the Ciclovía opens some main streets of Bogotà and other cities to human powered traffic. More than one million people (in a city of seven million) come out to exercise and socialise.
