Spanish Book Club - with Argentinian tapas & wine : 19 Sept.

Join our Spanish Book Club once a month, where we discuss contemporary and classic books in Spanish, whilst enjoying delicious food and drink from the author's country of birth. The book for September is the highly acclaimed El Túnel by Argentinian author Ernesto Sabato.

The participation fee includes a copy of the book, Argentinian nibbles & wine, and a session co-ordinated by our experienced tutor, Luis. The book club is held by the school, Spanish Marks, and all proceeds are going to the children's charities, Shaftesbury Young People and Asociación Fatima.
The maximum number of participants is 10, so we recommend to book today as there is great demand!

We have a relaxed atmosphere, with most of the discussion in Spanish. It is an event for those who love literature and Spanish, and want to spend an evening discussing the chosen book, whilst enjoying tapas and a glass of wine. It is not a language lesson, but an informal discussion about the book and it's themes, allowing you to practice Spanish in a warm, friendly and culturally-rich setting!
Receive a copy of El Túnel when you purchase a ticket, so you can read it in advance. Buy before 25th August, to receive free delivery of the book. Tickets bought after this date will need to collect the book from Hotel Strand Continental, 143 Strand, WC2R 1JA.

El Túnel is a dark, psychological novel about a deranged painter, Juan Pablo Castel and his obsession with a woman. Castel proceeds to tell from his jail cell, the series of events that led him to murdering the only person capable of understanding him.
If you can understand around 80% of the below extract, we recommend you joining us for this session!:
Bastará decir que soy Juan Pablo Castel, el pintor que mató a María Iribarne; supongo que el proceso está en el recuerdo de todos y que no se necesitan mayores explicaciones sobre mi persona. Aunque ni el diablo sabe qué es lo que ha de recordar la gente, ni por qué. En realidad, siempre he pensado que no hay memoria colectiva, lo que quizá sea una forma de defensa de la especie humana.

The book club is held once a month, with a different book each month. We change the country, theme and style of literature, and always choose highly acclaimed books of great quality.
¡Esperamos verte pronto!
