Chincha Sundays : 1st October

Chincha Sundays : 1st October

This September, Ceviche Old St will launch its Chincha Sunday sessions, bringing Afro-Peruvian music to Shoreditch with live performances, DJs, food and drink. Inspired by the informal gatherings of Lima’s underground Peñas, Ceviche Old St’s Chincha Sundays will bring a flavour of Lima’s Afro heritage to London.

Hosted by chef and restaurateur Martin Morales on the first Sunday of every month, the events will champion the harmony of music and food, which Martin has long supported, having set-up Tiger’s Milk Records in 2012, delving into the sounds of all corners of Peru, from punk and funk to Afro, electronic and folkloric music. Headlining Chincha Sundays, Peruvian master ‘cajon’ percussionist Kieffer Santander will perform live. For the inaugural Chincha session on 3rd September Keiffer will be joined by DJ Cal jader (Movimientos), before Martin Morales takes to the decks on 1st October.

The menu will include Afro-Peruvian classics including Lucha Reyes Tacu Tacu, a butterbean and rice pancake with smoked panca chilli braised aubergines and queso fresco; Corazon de Chincha, tender beef heart marinated in panca chilli with
choclo corn and rocoto chilli cream, and the quintessential Peruvian dessert, Picarones pumpkin and sweet potato doughnuts created by Martin Morales and Executive Chef Vitelio Reyes.

“When I was travelling around South America I discovered La Bomba Del Tiempo in Buenos Aires; weekly nights where the best percussionists in the city get together to jam and create utterly unique music. It was electric and I’ve wanted to recreate this in London ever since - Ceviche Old St provides the perfect opportunity, it’s a cultural melting pot of food, art and music. Our Chincha Sundays will be the opportunity to showcase the very best of Afro-Peruvian culture in London, we all need a little more jazz in our lives” says Martin Morales.

Chincha Sundays at Ceviche Old St will take place on the first Sunday of every month from 12 - 6pm. Free entry.
