Milton Nascimento Brazilian Guitar 25 + 26/1/2013

Milton Nasciemento - legendary brazilian singer-songwriter and guitarist, appears for 4 shows over 2 nights. His melodies are extraordinary. They’re unique. Milton Nascimento is most likely the greatest Brazilian songwriter since Jobim/Gil Paul Simon

“The word inventive can’t describe him as well as the world original can. For he is on his own, a movement” Caetano Veloso

“If God sang, he would do it with Milton’s voice” Elis Regina

“Milton is a brilliant composer; he has one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard. His melodies are of a simplicity that just hit the core of your heart” Herbie Hancock.

“Milton has this magnanimity, this vibe of a soul that knows it’s big.” Gilberto Gil

By the age of two, Milton Nascimento was hammering on a piano at his grandparent’s home in his native Brazil. By six, he would spend hours on the front porch playing accordion and harmonica using his voice to replace missing notes. By nineteen he had written his first song, then, a few years later, Brazilian pop singer Elis Regina would record one of his songs opening the door to becoming one of Brazils most celebrated singer songwriters.

Today, Nascimento is an international star touching audiences all over the world. His compositions, particularly those on the 1974 album Native Dancer collaboration with Wayne Shorter - remain an influence on many of today’s musicians including Esperanza Spalding. He has written and recorded a stunning 28 albums, and has worked with and appeared on albums with artist such as Paul Simon, Quincy Jones , Pat Metheny, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, and Peter Gabriel.

Like any true jazz and pop veteran, Nascimento has a deep need to challenge himself, vocally, lyrically, and stylistically. Whatever he writes and sings about, be it the planet, ways of living, and loving and dying, his music always carries an eternally optimistic spirit. Whether he's packing a stadium in Brazil or singing at a club in New York, his experienced stage persona allows his audience to feel as if they're in his living room, so it is with great excitement that Ronnie Scott’s welcomes Milton Nascimento to perform his Ronnie’s debut for two nights in January.
