Majagua in Concert : 07/3/13

Majagua in Concert : 07/3/13

Majagua Featuring singer-guitarist Martha Acosta, Claudia Silva on vocals and sax, Camilo Menjura on guitar, charango, cuatro and vocals and Carlos Fuentes on percussion & vocals, Majagua is the only London-based Folk ensemble with the mission statement to represent the array of exciting and complex rhythms from all of the Latin American countries.

With electrifying four part harmonies and an array of remarkably well-played traditional instruments, they make beautiful, meaningful, emotional and expressive music. So Majagua do not play music only from their native Colombia: they take you on a musical journey though Latin America’s mountains, rivers, plains and jungles, demonstrating the European influences by evoking the sweet and mellow waltzes from Peruvian great composer ‘Chabuca Granda’; Carnavalitos and Huaynos from Peru and Bolivia; Joropos from Venezuela and Colombia; the pure magical sounds of ‘Mercedes Sosa’ from Argentina; the raw Mexican drama of ‘Chavela Vargas’ with corridos and rancheras…. And then comes the exhilarating sounds from the African influences! portrayed by cumbias and currulaos from Colombia and the great sounds from Cuba’s best ‘Celina Gonzales’.

There will be a cash bar and homemade Turkish food available. Tickets are available online via the link below, or at the museum, for £10. Tickets on the door cost £12. SE16 residents (with proof!) are entitled to tickets at £10 each even on the door.
