|World book day: Un lugar propio at Saint Gabriel’s College||on 2016-03-16|
On Tuesday 1st March 2016, a group of year 9 and 10 Bilingual Spanish speaking students from Saint Gabriel’s College in Camberwell, were lucky enough to have Leonardo Boix visit the school to read some of his poetry.
Leonardo Boix is an Argentinean journalist, writer and poet, and has managed to create pieces of work that encompass both aspects of his life and an insight into the life of others who have immigrated into the UK. Students had the opportunity to listen and ask questions about pieces from his most recent book, “Un Lugar Propio” (Letras del Sur 2015).
Mrs Lopez EAL teacher said “This is an amazing opportunity for these children to be able to have a real life poet come into the school and bring poetry alive. More so it being a Latino, it’s someone that the children and I could relate to. With a lot of Leonardo’s poems we as a group and Latinos could reflect and identify with, “Google earth” was a particular poem which stood out to the pupils as it is something that they could identify with. My reason for doing this is to help inspire a younger generation of Latino children living in the UK.”
Vanessa Marin and Carlos Palacios were lucky enough to interview Leonardo, in both Spanish and English read the interview HERE
