Film | Day of the flowers

He is one of the finest ballet dancers of his generation; now Carlos Acosta is to make his movie debut. The film is a romantic drama of two charmingly idiosyncratic Scottish sisters and their colourful but complicated journey across Cuba.

Two young, strong-willed Scottish sisters, one a left-wing activist, the other a born-to-shop fashionista, take their late father's ashes to Cuba, the site of many intriguing family legends. Arriving in Havana, the two women promptly lose the ashes and go through a series of misadventures - both romantic and dangerous - to try to retrieve them, making some surprising discoveries along the way about the family ties that hold them together.

Directed by BAFTA winning John Roberts, this colourful and wryly humorous tale of cross-cultural misunderstandings and lost illusions stars Eva Birthistle ('Ae Fond Kiss', 'Breakfast on Pluto'), Charity Wakefield ('Serena' and upcoming Bryan Fuller's NBC series 'Mockingbird Lane') and introduces the acclaimed ballet star Carlos Acosta in his first feature-length role.
